Mayor Chris Coleman declares April 19 as Wits Day in St. Paul

(St. Paul, Minn.) April 10, 2013—In celebration of American Public Media™ and Minnesota Public Radio’s® four successful seasons of the wildly entertaining Wits™ show and to honor the series becoming a weekly national radio program, Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman has declared Friday, April 19 as Wits Day in Saint Paul, Minn.

Since 2010, Wits has welcomed world-class comedians, actors and musicians to the stage of the Fitzgerald Theater, where host John Moe gives them and the audience the time of their lives. The spring season of live shows continues this tradition with an array of talented guests including Paula Poundstone, W. Kamau Bell, Patton Oswalt, Colin Hanks, Kathleen Edwards, Rufus Wainwright, Ben Lee and many more.

Theater-goers will have the pleasure of witnessing first-hand, history in the making, as Mayor Chris Coleman presents John Moe with the official Wits Day proclamation during the live Wits show with guest Tig Notaro and musical guest Kathleen Edwards at the Fitzgerald Theater in Saint Paul on April 19.

Wits is a perfect example of a Saint Paul classic that has gone national,” Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman said. “Saint Paulites value quality, and with Wits‘ skillful mix of entertainment and enlightenment, it’s no wonder it is in its fourth successful season and has been turned into a national show. I have no doubt many successful seasons are in the future for Wits, and I’m looking forward to listening.”

“We are thrilled that the Mayor has given us this great honor and I only hope that it means we have the power to make new laws and arrest people,” said John Moe, host of Wits. “Seriously, though, Saint Paul has made Wits what it is. The audience’s active participation at every show on Twitter and inside the Fitzgerald Theater has given Wits its strong Saint Paul flavor. We celebrate this honor with the community that has made it all possible.”

Wits launched as a national radio program on January 4, and has been picked up by stations across the country. Public broadcasters from Washington, D.C. to Houston to Seattle are bringing Wits to listeners every week of the year.

To get the latest updates on everything Wits, fans can follow the program on Twitter and Facebook. The Wits podcast is available every week on iTunes, SoundCloud and this website.
